School of Sanctuary

Greasby Infant School is applying to be a School of Sanctuary.  This means that our school is exceptionally welcoming to children and families from all backgrounds, faiths, countries and cultures.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, including those seeking sanctuary.  This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety as part of our Greasby community.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community.  It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

There are three key principles to being a School of Sanctuary:

LEARN – School will help children, staff and the wider community learn about what it means to be seeking sanctuary through our curriculum, events and activities.

EMBED – Take positive action to embed positive concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within the school and wider community, being proud to be a truly inclusive school.

SHARE – To share our vision and achievements and be proud that we are ready to learn about different backgrounds and cultures, as well as taking responsibility to ensure that every child feels safe and welcome at Greasby Infant School.
