Curriculum Overview
This half term we have lots of fun learning planned out and we would love to see any learning linked to this at home too.
Literacy
Story - A River ( Please do not share this story with the children until we have in class)
This half term we will be focusing on a circular story which the children will use as inspiration to write their own story about going on a journey.
We will be focusing on:
- Capital letters and full stops
- Letter formation
- Using adjectives correctly
- Correct spacing between letters and words
- Handwriting
- Statements and questions
Read Write Inc
Children will attend daily phonics groups based on their assessment. Children who have come off the phonics programme will focus on spelling and different comprehension style questions.
Maths
In math we will be focusing on numbers to 100 through different steps, including counting up in tens. Place value will have a major role throughout the chapter. Pupils will also look at comparing numbers using their place-value knowledge and they will go through number bonds. They will also explore numbers to see patterns within 100. We will also begin addition and subtraction using number bond diagrams as well as the standard column method. Pupils will be taken through each lesson with slight variations in the learning objects so that they can reach a level of mastery.
Topic
History
This half we are learning all about 'Christopher Columbus'. We will be looking at the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.
Geography
In Geography we will be learning about the continents and oceans. Naming and locating the seven continents and five oceans of the world.
RE
We will be learning about Hinduism.
- What is Hinduism?
- What do Hindus believe?
- How do Hindus welcome people?
- How should we treat others and how do Hindus treat each other?
- Who is Brahman and the Hindu gods?
Science
This half term we will be learning about life cycles. Noticing that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults.
Art/DT
In Art we will be creating nature pictures. We will be rubbing pressing and rolling leaves to creative an effective picture and mixing paint to make secondary colours and brown.
In DT we will be making paper boats, thinking of an idea and planning what to do next and weighing ingredients to use in a recipe.
PE
In PE, we are focusing on ...
Computing
This half term we will be focusing on keeping children safe online and technology around the school.
